Six Week Communication Workshop Speechcraft

The ability to speak with confidence has become an essential skill in the workplace, in your volunteer organization, and even in your family. Yet, whether due to fear or a lack of training, it is a skill that many people struggle with. If you want to become a better speaker, this workshop is for you.

Beginning Sept 28, 2023, for six weeks, Hershaw Toastmasters will be presenting the Toastmasters Speechcraft Workshop in a hybrid environment. This condensed communication workshop is specifically designed for non-Toastmasters who want to improve their public speaking.

As a workshop participant, you will get:

• Mentoring from experienced Toastmasters
• Practice and feedback
• Access to materials
• Supportive environment
• Lessons in how to best communicate your message
• A certificate of completion

You will learn the basics of public speaking including:

• How to organize your speech or presentation to convey your message
• How to use your body language to support your message
• How to use your voice to support your message
• How to avoid the use of filler words and sounds so your presentation will flow smoothly
• The program consists of projects that will lead you through the process of enhancing your speaking skills.
• Each participant will be mentored during the program giving you one-on-one support from an experienced Toastmaster.

The club is offering the program for a small fee of $50.

How does the workshop work?

You will experience a wide range of communication experiences. You will receive valuable reference materials to support your goal. The initial prepared speeches are designed with the novice speaker in mind. No experience is needed. A variety of assigned short speeches helps you develop confidence and competency. After giving a short, prepared speech, you receive a constructive speech evaluation.

How will I benefit from the workshop?

By participating in a Speechcraft program, you will learn how to speak without fear in front of small and large groups of people and to prepare effective speeches in a limited time frame. You will improve your presentation skills and win the respect and admiration of your colleagues. You will also learn to lead effective meetings and increase your management potential.

Is there an age limit?

Participants must be 18 years of age or older.

What if I want to keep learning after the workshop is over?

You can visit a Toastmasters Club such as Hershaw Toastmasters and for a small semi-annual fee become a member. This will give you the opportunity to participate in weekly meetings and have access to a full range of resources. Hershaw Toastmasters meets every Thursday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Please see our website at www.hershawtoastmasters.com. If you choose to join the club at the conclusion of the Speechcraft program, the club will discount your new member fee by $25 (half of your workshop fee).
